A Georgia elementary school assistant principal has been arrested and charged with felony shoplifting after allegedly stealing from a Walmart nearly 100 times over a two-month period.
Courtney Shaw, 47, is accused of taking more than $900 worth of merchandise from a Walmart on Bells Ferry Road in Woodstock, about 30 miles north of Atlanta, according to an incident report obtained by local ABC affiliate WSB.
The report states that Shaw allegedly carried out 98 thefts between Nov. 2 and Dec. 31, 2025. Investigators say she would stack two items together at self-checkout, scan only one, and then place both items into a bag or cart before leaving the store. The specific items allegedly taken were not listed in the report.
Shaw serves as assistant principal at Free Home Elementary School in Cumming, according to the school’s website. She has been with the school since 2024 and has more than 20 years of experience in education. Before joining Free Home Elementary, she spent eight years as assistant principal at Bascomb Elementary School.
In a statement to WSB, the Cherokee County School District said Shaw has been placed on administrative leave while the district conducts an internal investigation alongside the ongoing criminal case.
“Maintaining the safety and security of our students and staff is our top priority, and inappropriate conduct will never be tolerated,” the district said.
Shaw was arrested on Jan. 19 and booked into the Cherokee County Jail. She later posted a bond of nearly $5,000. Her next court appearance is scheduled for March 5.
