Killers disguised as cops stormed soccer game to gun down 3 rival gang members
A disturbing surveillance video captured the moment armed men posing as police officers stormed a soccer field in Ecuador and killed three people believed to be linked to a rival criminal gang.
Footage from a gated community outside the port city of Guayaquil, recorded earlier this month, shows several gunmen dressed in law enforcement-style uniforms opening fire on a soccer pitch while a group of men were playing. The attackers forced people to the ground as shots rang out. One victim was left dead in the middle of the field while the gunmen and other players fled, according to the video. Two additional bodies were later discovered in areas surrounding the sports complex, Newsflash reported.
Investigators say the attackers assaulted the community’s security guards, restrained them, and stole their weapons before carrying out the shooting. Ecuadorian newspaper El Universo reported that one of the victims was identified as 40-year-old Stalin Rolando Olivero Vargas, also known as “Marino,” a leader of the criminal group Los Lagartos. Authorities believe he may have been the primary target in a gang-related attack.

The other victims were identified as Jefferson Xavier Salon Olivero, 33, and Richard Josue Mina Vergara, 29. Officials said both had extensive criminal histories that included charges related to drug trafficking, murder, and robbery. Interior Minister John Reimberg stated that Vargas had been considering leaving Los Lagartos and joining a rival organization, Los Lobos.
Police had been monitoring Vargas for some time, and just weeks before the Jan. 7 shooting, authorities searched a nearby residential area in an effort to locate him. He was also known to be romantically involved with Micaela Morales Arcos, the daughter of former Guayas province prefect Carlos Luis Morales, according to local outlet Ecuadorchequea.

No arrests have been made, and the investigation into the shooting remains ongoing, officials said.
