Video of animal rescuers dragging dog out of apartment complex has activists in a froth
A video showing animal services officers dragging a dog by its neck from an apartment complex in Corona has sparked outrage among animal advocates.
The footage, shared by Los Angeles–based nonprofit Animal Rescue Mission, shows the unleashed dog being pulled from a grassy area near a children’s playground. Three officers are seen using catch poles to restrain the animal as it struggles and flips on the ground.
Animal rights activists criticized the officers’ actions, calling the response excessive and unnecessary. Residents told advocates the dog was “sweet, friendly, and calm — even with children.” According to the group, neighbors contacted Animal Control with the expectation that the dog would be safely transported to a shelter so its family could be located.

“Instead, three officers treated him like a threat and traumatized him with unnecessary force,” the nonprofit wrote in the caption of an Instagram post featuring the video. The group said it has demanded the officers’ names, disciplinary action, and their removal from field duty.
The Corona Animal Shelter defended its handling of the incident, stating that officers were dispatched after receiving reports of “a large dog behaving aggressively” near children. The shelter said the dog was transported safely, examined, and found to be uninjured. Officials added that the animal will be available for adoption if an owner cannot be identified.

“We recognize that incidents involving animals can be concerning, and we remain committed to transparency, humane animal care, and continuous improvement,” the shelter said in a statement posted on I
