BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — A 21-year-old Bloomington man has been arrested following an investigation into the sexual assault of a juvenile.
Yao Amouzou faces two counts of rape, both Level 3 felonies, according to court records. Investigators say that around 3 a.m. on Dec. 21, Amouzou and his roommate picked up two juveniles who believed they were going to get food. Instead, the pair were taken to Amouzou’s apartment.
Police say that after some time at the apartment, Amouzou asked one of the juveniles to go to his bedroom. The victim initially declined multiple times but later agreed to lie on the bed with space between them.
Court documents allege that Amouzou later forced himself on the victim despite her attempts to resist and tell him to stop. After she was able to leave the room, the victim informed her friend that something was wrong.
The two juveniles were later taken to McDonald’s before being driven home. The victim then reported the incident to a parent and was taken to Monroe Hospital, where a sexual assault examination was conducted.
Bloomington Police interviewed multiple witnesses who confirmed that Amouzou and his roommate picked up the juveniles and brought them to the apartment. Investigators say Amouzou had not previously met either juvenile before that night.
According to court records, Amouzou told his roommate that he was unsure why the victim was upset, though he acknowledged sexual activity occurred and claimed it was consensual.
Police contacted Amouzou by phone on Jan. 7. He declined to answer questions, stating he was seeking legal counsel. He was arrested Monday on Bloomington’s east side and booked into the Monroe County Jail.
Court records do not yet list a date for Amouzou’s initial court appearance.
