Car Rams Into Police Station Lobby
A vehicle crashed into the Shrewsbury Police Department headquarters in Massachusetts on Monday afternoon, and authorities say the incident appears to have been intentional.
Police said a 2022 BMW SUV drove through the front lobby of the station and into the dispatch center. The driver was the only person injured and was taken into custody before being transported to a hospital for treatment, according to CBS Boston. Officials identified the driver as a Shrewsbury resident who is known to police, though they had not had contact with him since 2019. His motive remains under investigation.
The police station, which opened in 2023, is located about 40 miles west of Boston. The crash occurred around 2 p.m. Witness Tyler O’Keefe described the scene to CBS Boston, saying he saw a vehicle tilted inside the front entrance of the station with its hazard lights flashing. “I’ve never seen anything like it,” he said.
Town Manager Kevin Mizikar said the SUV broke through the main window and an interior wall in the area where residents typically interact with dispatchers. He added that repairs are expected to take several months, according to the Community Advocate.
Police Chief Kevin Anderson said it was fortunate that no one else was hurt, noting that the lobby is usually busy with daily operations, training sessions, and meetings. Despite the damage, Anderson said the police department remains fully operational.
