EVANSVILLE, Ind. — A woman in Indiana is accused of stealing a phone charger from a dollar store and then attempting to run over an employee who confronted her.

The incident occurred around 7:30 p.m. Thursday near Dollar Depot on Washington Avenue in Evansville. Police responded after a Jeep allegedly nearly struck an employee at a nearby gas station, according to a probable cause arrest affidavit.

The employee told officers he saw 34-year-old Melissa Ann Noble take a cellphone charger and charging block from the store before driving to the gas station in her Jeep. When he walked across the street to confront her and photograph her license plate, Noble allegedly swung a bottle of Hawaiian Punch at him, striking his hand.

The affidavit states that Noble then got into her Jeep, put it in reverse with the employee still behind the vehicle, and drove aggressively toward him. The employee was able to avoid being hit, and Noble then drove off from the parking lot.

Officers later located Noble and pulled her over. She was read her Miranda rights but refused to acknowledge them and asked for a lawyer. A passenger in her vehicle told police they were unaware of the shoplifting but confirmed Noble had attempted to hit the employee.

Police found the cellphone charger, charging block, and bottle of Hawaiian Punch inside the Jeep. Noble now faces charges of attempted battery with a deadly weapon, battery, and shoplifting.

As of Monday, she remained in the Vanderburgh County Jail without bond. Her next court date is Wednesday.
