U-Haul truck drives through protest in Los Angeles
A U-Haul truck drove through a crowd of protesters in Los Angeles on Sunday during a demonstration held in support of the Iranian people.
The exact number of people injured has not been confirmed.
Video from the scene shows demonstrators surrounding the truck and breaking one of its windows moments before the vehicle moved forward through the crowd. Protesters can be heard shouting as the truck passed through the area. Aerial footage later showed police surrounding the abandoned U-Haul. Authorities have not publicly identified the driver.
According to NBC 4, hundreds of people gathered in Westwood to show solidarity with Iranian protesters amid a violent crackdown in Iran that has reportedly resulted in hundreds of deaths.
The U.S.-based Human Rights Activists News Agency reports that at least 583 people have been killed since unrest began two weeks ago, sparked by Iran’s ongoing economic crisis.
In Westwood, organizers held the demonstration to support the Iranian people. The Los Angeles Fire Department said at least two individuals were evaluated at the scene but declined medical treatment.
Cellphone video captured moments when members of the crowd punched the driver while attempting to pull him from the truck. The vehicle’s windows were visibly damaged.
As previously reported by The Gateway Pundit, President Trump has indicated support for the Iranian people as they continue to protest against the regime, which has been accused of violently suppressing dissent under Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
