CAMDEN, NJ — A bizarre heist shook Donkey’s Place, the beloved Camden cheesesteak joint, when a thief grabbed a rare antique walrus penis bone from behind the bar — leaving staff both shocked and furious.

“She went to the back for a second, and one guy just took it,” said Lucas, a restaurant employee. “We got a photo of him, but I don’t think he’s from around here.”

The walrus bone, a quirky conversation piece, has been on display alongside other oddities like a megalodon tooth for years. Donkey’s Place, famously praised by Anthony Bourdain as the area’s “best cheesesteak,” has long been a mix of legendary sandwiches and eccentric collectibles.

The theft happened on Jan. 30 when a trio of men, reportedly “drinking for hours,” asked to see the artifact. One of them suddenly bolted with it, according to the bartender on duty.

“I can’t even believe he did this… let’s find the guy who stole Donkey’s you-know-what,” she said in a TikTok post the following day, showing the alleged thief grinning with a beard and holding a cocktail before making off with the bone.

Lucas said he has no plans to press charges, pleading simply for the decades-old relic to be returned.

“We just want the thing back,” he said. “It’s not the same without it.”
