DHS ‘accelerating’ operations in Minn. as protests erupt: ‘See you on the streets’

Minneapolis erupted in chaos Thursday after a protester was shot and killed by federal immigration officers, following an incident in which she allegedly tried to hit an officer with her SUV, dramatic video shows.

Renee Nicole Good, 37, was shot on East 34th Street and Portland Avenue. Footage from the scene appears to show her striking an ICE agent with her car before he fired through the vehicle’s window.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced it is “accelerating” operations in Minneapolis, sending additional law enforcement officers to the city in the wake of the deadly shooting. DHS posted on X: “See you on the streets!”—a message that directly challenges Mayor Jacob Frey’s demand Wednesday that ICE leave the city. President Trump and Homeland Security officials said the agent fired in self-defense after being hit by Good’s vehicle.

Protests erupted Thursday near the site of the shooting, less than a mile from where George Floyd was killed. Minneapolis public schools will remain closed for the rest of the week amid concerns about further demonstrations.

DHS emphasized its expanded operations in Minneapolis, stating: “THE WORK CONTINUES! DHS investigations in Minneapolis are accelerating as more of our brave law enforcement enter the state. We will not be impeded from ending the FRAUD that has ABUSED our nation’s generosity.” The department confirmed its ongoing presence near the location where Good was shot.

It remains unclear exactly how many additional officers have been deployed to the Twin Cities.

ICE Briefly Pauses Operations

After the fatal shooting, ICE temporarily paused operations in the area to ensure the safety of officers and the public. Acting Director Todd Lyons told Fox News Thursday, “We took a pause yesterday afternoon after that deadly shooting … to check on our staff and our officers at the scene, making sure everything was secure. But we were back in the fight more than an hour later.”
