WATCH: YouTuber Nick Shirley Says He’s Receiving Death Threats Saying He’ll Be ‘Kirked’ After Bombshell Video Exposes $110 Million Somali Daycare Fraud Scheme in Minnesota
YouTuber and independent journalist Nick Shirley says he has received death threats and warnings that he will be “Kirked” after publishing a viral investigation alleging more than $110 million in taxpayer-funded fraud connected to Somali-run daycare centers in Minnesota.
Shirley, 23, appeared Wednesday on the PBD Podcast with host Patrick Bet-David, where he described facing harassment, doxxing, and being followed while reporting. His 42-minute investigative video, released last week, has surpassed 132 million views.
In the video, Shirley and his team visited multiple daycare facilities across the Minneapolis area—home to one of the largest Somali populations in the United States. Despite records showing the centers received millions in government subsidies, Shirley documented locked doors, empty buildings, and no evidence of active childcare operations.

According to Shirley, one facility alone received approximately $4 million in taxpayer funds. He estimated that the total amount of alleged fraud uncovered during a single day of reporting exceeded $110 million.
Following the video’s release, Shirley said the backlash escalated quickly.
“I’ve been getting death threats,” he said on the podcast. “People are telling me I’m going to get ‘Kirked.’”
The term references the September assassination of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk.
Shirley said his family has also been targeted. He claimed an Indian news outlet published his home address and identified his father, while his sister has received unsolicited calls from media outlets.

“Don’t talk to my family,” Shirley said. “We didn’t do anything wrong. I just exposed fraud. This wasn’t a right-or-left issue.”
He also alleged that while filming, members of his team were followed and confronted.
“I showed that fraud was happening,” Shirley said. “Now people are coming after me for it.”
