Somali Daycare Manager Claims Burglars Mysteriously Broke Into Facility, Stole All “Important Documents” – Including Child Enrollment Info – Blames Nick Shirley (VIDEO)

A manager at Nokomis Day Care Center in Minneapolis said Tuesday that “important documents” were stolen during an apparent break-in at the facility.

The daycare, which is Somali-owned, was recently featured in a video by journalist Nick Shirley examining alleged fraud involving some Somali-run childcare centers. Shirley has reported that state and federal authorities are investigating what he says could total more than $110 million in suspected daycare fraud.

The daycare manager, Nasrulah Mohamed, described the break-in as targeted and damaging.

“Yesterday morning, I was called by the owner because, unfortunately, someone came into our daycare,” Mohamed said. “We saw that the suspect came in from the back, broke in through the kitchen, and destroyed part of the wall to gain access.”

Mohamed said office doors were forced open and that key records were missing.

“Important documentation — children’s enrollment records and employee documentation — was gone,” he said. “Checkbooks were also damaged.”

Mohamed described the incident as distressing and suggested it may be connected to recent media attention.

“This is devastating,” he said. “We don’t understand why our Somali community is being targeted. A video made by a specific individual seems to have triggered all of this.”

He also claimed the daycare has received threatening messages following the video’s release.

“This is frightening and exhausting,” Mohamed said.

CBS News was shown the area where Mohamed said the intruders entered the building. Questions remain, however, about the nature of the break-in, as Mohamed claimed the burglars appeared to know exactly where to go and removed only documents he described as “important.”

No arrests have been announced, and authorities have not publicly confirmed whether the break-in is connected to any ongoing fraud investigations.
