A conservative watchdog group is examining Rep. Ilhan Omar’s finances as scrutiny intensifies over a massive fraud scandal in her home state of Minnesota and questions surrounding her sudden increase in personal wealth.
Peter Flaherty, chairman of the National Legal and Policy Center (NLPC), told The Post that the organization is “certainly looking” into Omar, a Democrat who represents Minnesota.
The review comes shortly after The Post reported that Omar’s husband’s venture capital firm removed key leadership information from its online profiles amid growing questions about Omar’s rapid rise in net worth.
According to her financial disclosures, Omar’s net worth increased to approximately $30 million in about a year—an estimated 3,500% jump compared with 2023. Much of the reported growth is tied to the business interests of her husband, Tim Mynett, including a California winery and his venture capital firm, Rose Lake Capital, which is based in Washington, D.C.
Rose Lake Capital reportedly grew from having little to no value in 2023 to an estimated value of between $5 million and $25 million within a year. The firm has also claimed that its officers previously managed roughly $60 billion in assets.

More recently, the names and biographies of Rose Lake Capital’s nine officers were removed from LinkedIn, prompting additional questions.
Mynett’s winery business—previously linked to fraud allegations—also saw its estimated value rise sharply in 2024, reaching between $1 million and $5 million, according to Omar’s disclosures.
The questions surrounding Omar’s finances come amid the broader Feeding Our Future fraud scandal in Minnesota, in which hundreds of millions of dollars in taxpayer funds were allegedly misused.
Omar has blamed the scandal on the rapid rollout of COVID-19 relief programs and insufficient oversight. “A lot of the COVID programs were set up so quickly that a lot of the guardrails did not get created,” she told CNN earlier this month.

Conservative critics have called for deeper investigations into both Omar and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz over their handling of the scandal.
“On Walz’s watch, Minnesota became a fraud factory, aided and defended by allies like Ilhan Omar. Investigate everything,” Rep. Brian Babin (R-Texas) wrote on X, adding, “Prosecute everyone involved.”
