As the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) continues expanding its influence in the United States through funding programs and acquiring schools, a retired U.S. general and a Chinese dissident are warning that America is facing a serious internal threat. They argue this is not a conventional war, but a battle for the minds and values of the next generation of Americans.
Communist China is among the top three foreign sources of funding for U.S. universities, with Qatar ranking first. However, critics warn that CCP influence reaches far beyond higher education, extending into elementary, middle, and high schools across the country. They point to polling data showing that nearly two-thirds of Americans under 30 view socialism favorably, while about one-third hold favorable views of communism. According to these critics, decades of inaction have allowed hostile foreign ideologies to take root in American classrooms.
One of the most vocal critics is retired Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn, who recently highlighted a Fox News investigation revealing that Chinese-owned entities have purchased hundreds of American schools. “The CCP is destroying America from within—when will it end!?” Flynn wrote on X, tagging President Donald Trump and members of his administration. “They don’t need to invade America. They’re already inside.”
Chinese Investment Firms are buying hundreds of American schools

Fox News reported that the Spring Education Group, a company with Chinese ownership, has acquired approximately 240 schools across 19 states. The investment firm backing the group is reportedly led by a CEO known for strong loyalty to the CCP.
Chinese dissident and Virginia parent Xi Van Fleet also warned that the CCP views the United States as its primary adversary. Speaking to Fox News, she said the Chinese regime has long sought to weaken and undermine America in order to replace it as the world’s leading superpower. She explained that the CCP views itself as the “Middle Kingdom,” a concept rooted in the belief that China is destined to be the center of global power.
Flynn echoed those concerns, stating that for decades the CCP has pursued a strategy of “unrestricted warfare” against the United States—using economic leverage, land purchases, and cultural influence rather than military force.
Critics emphasize that in China, true private enterprise does not exist in the same way it does in the United States. All companies are ultimately accountable to the CCP, and many are legally required to cooperate with the government, share information, and promote party ideology. Some corporations even maintain internal CCP committees. This structure, they argue, means that when a Chinese entity acquires an American school, it presents a potential national security risk regardless of whether the connection to the CCP appears direct or indirect.
