Santa made a huge stop in Arkansas this holiday season. A winning ticket for Wednesday’s Powerball drawing—worth a staggering $1.817 billion—was sold in the state, according to the Associated Press. If the winner chooses the cash option, the payout would be about $835 million before taxes. The jackpot ranks as the second-largest lottery prize in U.S. history.

The winning numbers were 4, 25, 31, 52, and 59, with Powerball 19. Under Arkansas law, lottery winners can remain anonymous for up to three years, though their identities are eventually made public. For one lucky player, it’s shaping up to be an unforgettable Christmas week.

Meanwhile, the Powerball jackpot continues to soar. With no jackpot winner in Saturday night’s drawing, the prize for Monday’s drawing has climbed to an estimated $1.6 billion, placing it among the largest lottery jackpots ever offered in the United States. Saturday’s numbers were 4, 5, 28, 52, and 69, with Powerball 20. While no one matched all six numbers, eight players nationwide won $1 million each by matching the five white balls.

Powerball officials say the current jackpot is now the fourth-largest in the game’s history and the fifth-largest lottery jackpot ever recorded in the U.S. The national record remains a $2.04 billion Powerball prize won in California in 2022, which paid out a lump sum of about $997.6 million.

For Monday’s drawing, the eventual winner will again face the familiar decision between a lump-sum payment or annual installments. The cash option is currently estimated at $735.3 million before taxes. Powerball tickets are sold in 45 states, as well as Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The odds of winning the jackpot remain long—about 1 in 292.2 million.
