The Hunter Becomes the Hunted

Prince Andrew, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, continues to face mounting consequences stemming from his long-standing association with the late, convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

The once-avid hunter has now surrendered his firearms license to London’s Metropolitan Police—the same force that previously dropped its investigation into allegations made against him.

According to The Telegraph, the former Duke of York, 65, agreed last month to give up his firearms and shotgun certificates after Metropolitan Police officers visited him at Royal Lodge in Windsor. A keen shooting enthusiast, Mountbatten-Windsor will now only be permitted to use or transport shotguns when accompanied by another licensed gun owner.

The move recalls his widely criticized 2019 BBC interview, in which he was questioned about a weekend spent at Sandringham in 2000 with Ghislaine Maxwell and Jeffrey Epstein. Andrew infamously dismissed the gathering as “a straightforward shooting weekend.”

A photograph released by the U.S. government last week showed Mountbatten-Windsor reclining across the laps of five women during that visit. Firearms licenses in the UK are subject to regular review and may be withdrawn if an individual is deemed “not fit to be entrusted with a firearm” or considered a risk to public safety or public order.

The Daily Mail reported that Metropolitan Police officers—who are responsible for royal and diplomatic protection—visited Andrew at Royal Lodge in November. Sources claim he relied on a valet to communicate with specialist officers, who reportedly conducted a “pretty thorough” review.

While officers did not confiscate his firearms outright, they imposed strict limitations on how the weapons are stored and who may access them. The decision followed a security review and effectively prevents Andrew from transporting or using firearms except under tight professional supervision.
