Greta Thunberg was arrested in central London on Tuesday while showing support for pro-Palestinian activists who are currently on a hunger strike. The group Prisoners for Palestine shared video footage of the 22-year-old Swedish climate activist holding a sign in solidarity with the hunger strikers and the organization Palestine Action, according to the Associated Press. Earlier this year, the British government designated Palestine Action as a terrorist organization.
Eight members of Palestine Action are participating in the hunger strike to protest their continued detention without bail while awaiting trial on multiple charges linked to previous demonstrations across the country. Prisoners for Palestine said the first two detainees have now been on hunger strike for 52 days. The British government has declined to intervene, stating that decisions regarding bail and detention fall under the authority of the courts.

Tuesday’s arrest occurred during a broader protest that also included two other activists who sprayed red paint outside an insurance company in the City of London, the area known as the center of the United Kingdom’s financial sector. Prisoners for Palestine said the insurer was targeted because of its alleged support for Elbit Systems, an Israel-linked defense company.
