A 1-year-old boy was viciously attacked by a pit bull on a crowded Manhattan street Sunday morning, leaving the child with a large wound in his leg, shocking bystanders and captured in harrowing video.
@thinkingcanine An innocent child was attacked by a dog right on the street in NYC. The dog grabbed on and would not let go. Thanks to bystanders, the child was freed though he was injured. Maybe this dog has never been aggressive before, maybe they have. If you have a dog who is aggressive it is your responsibility to keep others safe and keep them on a muzzle and in my professional opinion a dog that does this type of attack, a dog with this type of aggression does not belong in society. No “rehabilitation”. This dog is a dangerous predator! This type of dog (and I don’t mean the breed, plenty are nice) a dog with predatory aggression or severe uninterruptible aggression towards humans will always be a danger. Do you agree? What should New York City do? #reactivedog #aggressivedog #dogbehavior ♬ original sound – thinkingcanine
The attack occurred around 11:10 a.m. outside the Santander Bank in Union Square. Footage shows a woman, believed to be the boy’s mother, pleading for help while struggling to pull the dog off her child.
Several bystanders jumped in to help. One man repeatedly kicked the black-and-white dog, while another put the animal in a headlock. The dog’s owner tugged on the leash as the woman continued to cry out for help.

“Call the police. Someone pull him off! Someone please,” she can be heard shouting in the video.
According to police sources, the dog — a 2-year-old named Disco Bubba — finally released the boy after a man grabbed the animal from behind. One bystander filming the incident commented in shock, “Oh my God. There is a hole in his leg. There is a hole in that boy’s leg.”
The dog’s owner calmly walked away with the animal and waited at a nearby bus stop while others contacted authorities.
Police said the child’s father reported that he was picking up his son when the boy’s leg swung in front of the dog, prompting the bite. The boy’s mother accompanied him as emergency personnel rushed him to NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue, where he was treated for multiple lacerations and listed in stable condition.
Authorities confirmed that the dog’s owner is not facing criminal charges. The child’s family, however, has expressed a desire to pursue other options to have the dog euthanized.
The boy’s uncle said, “He had to get stitches, a lot of stitches. It’s walking around, that’s dangerous.”
Social media posts show the dog’s owner has shared several pictures of Disco Bubba over the years, calling him his “best friend” and “world’s best watch dog.”
