Steelers Receiver Suspended After Throwing Punch at Lions Fan (VIDEO)

Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver DK Metcalf has been suspended for two games following an altercation with a Detroit Lions fan during Sunday’s game at Ford Field in Detroit.

Video aired by CBS showed Metcalf walking toward a Lions fan who was leaning over the railing in the stands during the second quarter. In the footage, Metcalf appears to grab the fan by the hair before throwing a punch, which made contact. A CBS sideline reporter witnessed the incident.

CBS reporter Tracy Wolfson explained that the confrontation began after the fan held up a Pittsburgh No. 4 jersey and exchanged words with Metcalf.

“He came over because the fan in the stands was holding a ‘4’ Pittsburgh jersey,” Wolfson said during the broadcast. “The fan said something to him, and obviously Metcalf didn’t like it. You saw the swipe there. No Steelers players came over afterward. We’ll see if the league takes action.”

Later Sunday, the NFL announced Metcalf’s two-game suspension.

The fan involved, later identified as Ryan Kennedy of Pinckney, Michigan, told the Detroit Free Press that he was shaken by the incident. Kennedy said Metcalf reacted after he referred to the receiver by his full name, DeKaylin Zecharius Metcalf.

“I’m a little shocked,” Kennedy told the Free Press. “Everyone’s talking to me. I’m a little rattled, but I just want the Lions to win.”

Kennedy added that Metcalf grabbed him and tore his shirt during the exchange. When first asked his name, Kennedy jokingly responded, “Biggest Detroit Lions Fan Ever that got attacked by DeKaylin Zecharius Metcalf,” before later giving his real name.

According to Lions officials, the fan was not ejected from the game. Stadium personnel spoke with him following the incident.
