Russian general killed by A bomb under his car in Moscow

A Russian general was killed Monday morning after an explosive device detonated beneath his car in southern Moscow, officials said.

Lt. Gen. Fanil Sarvarov, who led the Operational Training Directorate of the Russian Armed Forces’ General Staff, died from his injuries, Svetlana Petrenko, spokesperson for Russia’s Investigative Committee, reported. “Investigators are exploring multiple lines of inquiry regarding the murder. One possibility is that the attack was orchestrated by Ukrainian intelligence services,” she added.

Russian media said a car exploded in a parking lot on Yaseneva Street around 7 a.m., with the driver inside at the time.

Ukraine’s security service previously claimed responsibility for a similar attack in December 2024, when Lt. Gen. Igor Kirillov, head of the military’s nuclear, biological, and chemical protection forces, was killed by a bomb hidden on an electric scooter outside his apartment. His assistant, Ilya Polikarpov, was also killed, following Kyiv’s filing of criminal charges against Kirillov.
