A Mexican Navy aircraft crashed near Galveston, Texas, Monday night while conducting a humanitarian medical support mission, resulting in multiple fatalities, according to Mexican naval authorities.

At approximately 9:30 p.m. ET, the Mexican Navy confirmed that five people had died as a result of the crash. Two others were rescued alive and transported to a hospital for treatment, while search and rescue efforts continue for one remaining person who was on board the aircraft.

The plane, a King Air ANX 1209 operated by the Mexican Navy, was carrying out a mission under “Plan Marina” in coordination with the Michou and Mau Foundation, an organization that helps provide advanced medical care for children with severe burns. Eight people were aboard the aircraft, including four naval crew members and four civilians, when it went down during its approach near Galveston.

In a statement posted on X, the Mexican Navy said emergency response and search-and-rescue protocols were immediately activated following the crash. The operation is being conducted in coordination with the U.S. Coast Guard and local authorities. The Coast Guard has confirmed that six people have been recovered so far, including two survivors and four deceased.

The Galveston County Sheriff’s Office is assisting at the scene, and coordination is underway with the Mexican Consulate in Houston to support families and handle necessary procedures.

The Mexican Navy said an investigation will be conducted to determine the cause of the crash and reaffirmed its commitment to aviation safety and humanitarian assistance. Officials stated that updates will be shared as confirmed information becomes available.
