A designer wristlet valued at $505 was reportedly handed to a Spirit Airlines employee and placed in a drawer at the airport gate, according to records obtained by the outlet.

Three days later, surveillance footage allegedly showed Olukunle Idowu, 49, a Spirit Airlines supervisor, and Hyacinth Linton, 56, taking the purse for themselves. Around 5:37 a.m. on Oct. 22, cameras reportedly captured Idowu removing the wristlet from the drawer, inspecting it, and then moving to another gate to inventory its contents.

Minutes later, Linton appeared, and Idowu allegedly transferred items from the wristlet into a plastic bag. Linton then reportedly placed the empty designer wristlet into her backpack. Just before 6:00 a.m., the two left the area, with Idowu allegedly discarding the plastic bag in the trash.

Idowu was arrested on Nov. 21 and has pleaded not guilty to petit theft valued between $100 and $750, according to court documents. Linton was arrested on Nov. 13 on a petit theft charge of less than $40 and was released after posting a $500 bond.

Spirit Airlines issued a statement saying, “We are aware that two employees were charged in November for an alleged theft. One employee has been suspended without pay, and the other is on a leave of absence. We are conducting a thorough investigation into this matter and will take further action as deemed necessary following the conclusion of our investigation.”
