My neighbor’s car alarm keeps me up at night
Dear Abby:
I’m fortunate to live in a neighborhood where most of my neighbors are friendly and considerate. Over the years, we’ve enjoyed sharing celebrations and looking out for one another. However, one of the five households on our street has always remained distant. Despite friendly gestures on our part—such as offering food or small gifts—we’ve never established a personal connection. There’s no hostility, just no relationship.
Recently, a problem has developed that’s becoming hard to ignore. This family’s garage is so full that they park their car outside, and the car’s alarm is extremely sensitive. It goes off several times during the night, sometimes triggered by something as minor as their cat jumping on the hood. The alarm sounds for 15 to 20 seconds and is loud enough to wake us, and this has been happening regularly for the past six months.
I’m generally an easygoing person, but the ongoing sleep disruption is taking a toll. Given our limited interaction with this family, what would be the most respectful way to address this situation?
