Follow live updates on the release of the Jeffrey Epstein files, as the Department of Justice on Friday began releasing hundreds of thousands of documents tied to the disgraced financier and convicted sex offender.
Friday marks 30 days since President Trump signed a bipartisan law mandating that the Department of Justice turn over all unclassified records, documents, communications, and investigative materials related to Epstein. The law also requires the release of classified information to the maximum extent possible within that same timeframe. Epstein died in his Manhattan jail cell on Aug. 10, 2019, while awaiting trial on federal sex-trafficking charges.
Since the law took effect, federal judges have approved the unsealing of grand jury transcripts from the federal investigation into Epstein and his longtime associate, Ghislaine Maxwell. Maxwell is currently serving a 20-year prison sentence after being convicted in December 2021 on charges including sex-trafficking conspiracy.
