World? Tourist Shredded Online for Letting Knifeman Attack His Female Companion While He Ran and Hid
A disturbing video from Colombia is igniting widespread outrage online after a young male tourist appeared to abandon his female companion during a violent knife attack.
Footage circulating on X and reported by the New York Post shows two backpackers standing outside a business when a man suddenly approached them wielding what appeared to be a knife. The attacker immediately targeted the woman, moving in to strike her with the blade.
Instead of intervening, the male tourist hesitated, stepped back, and then retreated entirely. At one point, he appeared to hide behind a wall, watching as the woman struggled alone against the attacker.
For roughly 15 seconds, the woman fought back without any help from her companion. Nearby men initially failed to act as she resisted on her own.

The situation finally changed when a bystander rushed forward and struck the attacker with a motorcycle helmet. That decisive move broke the standoff, prompting three additional passersby to join in. Together, they tackled and beat the suspect until he was subdued. Throughout the entire confrontation — even once the attacker was clearly outnumbered — the male tourist never stepped in.
Few official details about the incident have been released. The exact date of the attack remains unclear, and the relationship between the two tourists has not been confirmed, though they appeared to be traveling together prior to the assault.
Regardless, the man’s conduct has quickly earned him infamy online. Many viewers have labeled his behavior as cowardly, criticizing him for failing to defend his companion while strangers risked themselves to stop the attacker.

In contrast, the woman has been widely praised for her courage, as have the men who intervened when her own companion would not.
