At least one gunman opened fire at Brown University in Rhode Island on Saturday afternoon, leaving at least two people dead and several others wounded. Providence’s mayor said eight victims were in critical condition, according to the Guardian. Authorities ordered students and staff to shelter in place as police moved from building to building Saturday evening searching for suspects, WPRI reported.
The shooting began in the Barus & Holley building, where engineering design exams were underway, the Associated Press reported. The seven-story building houses Brown’s School of Engineering and physics department.

Officials released little information about the victims or a possible motive. Saturday marked the second day of final exams at the university. The engineering complex is located on the eastern side of campus, according to the New York Times. Brown University and President Trump initially said a suspect was in custody but later walked back those statements. The FBI said it has joined the law enforcement response.
