Political correctness during the holiday season has reached a point where even entertainment insiders are taking notice.

On a recent episode of the Fly on the Wall podcast, David Spade spoke with Dana Carvey about a Christmas tree lighting ceremony that deliberately avoided using the word “Christmas.” Spade expressed frustration, echoing the concerns of millions of Americans who have long been irritated by this trend.

“Why can’t they just call it a Christmas tree?” Spade asked. He noted that some events use the term “holiday tree” instead — which he argued feels even more awkward and unnecessary.

According to Breitbart News, Spade criticized the mall ceremony for this deliberate omission. “You’re not allowed to slam someone else’s religion,” he said, pointing out what he sees as a glaring double standard.

“Christmas is taking a little bit of a beating lately,” Spade said during Sunday’s episode. “It’s December, and I saw a tree lighting ceremony for the Christmas tree at some mall. But they called it just a ‘tree lighting ceremony’ and avoided saying the word Christmas the entire time.”

“Why? So it’s just a tree?” Spade continued. “I would understand if it was just a generic event, like, ‘The Grove is having a tree lighting.’ But to consciously avoid ‘Christmas’—then what is the tree for? A December to remember? A Lexus dealership? Isn’t it for Christmas?”

Carvey added, “I know a lot of different kinds of people, and I’ve never met anyone from another faith upset about a Christmas tree.”

The discussion highlights how political correctness has crept into even simple holiday traditions — and many are glad to see celebrities like David Spade calling attention to it.
