LOS ANGELES — A U.S. Marine died Wednesday during a training exercise at Camp Pendleton in Southern California, military officials reported.
The Marine sustained fatal injuries in what the I Marine Expeditionary Force described as a “tactical vehicle mishap” in the afternoon, according to a statement.

The service member’s name has not been released, and the cause of the incident remains under investigation. Officials emphasized that the death was not connected to Steel Knight, the annual large-scale training exercise that began Monday at the base.

No additional details were provided.
The I Marine Expeditionary Force, based along the San Diego County coast, is the largest of the Marine Corps’ three expeditionary forces.
