Harry Jokes About Trump on Late Show
Prince Harry made an unexpected appearance on The Late Show on Wednesday night, jumping into the conversation just as Stephen Colbert was joking about Hallmark Christmas movies. Walking onstage, Harry teased the genre’s familiar plots, saying they give people “the unrealistic expectation that during the holiday season, they’re going to just bump into some prince at their job or walking down the street.” He played along with the bit, pretending he was there to audition for a nonexistent film titled The Gingerbread Christmas Prince Saves Christmas in Nebraska.
Harry and Colbert went back and forth about Americans’ enthusiasm for holiday movies and the fascination some have with royalty. When Colbert pushed back on the idea that Americans are obsessed with royalty, Harry shot back, “Really? I hear you elected a king,” according to People.
Keeping the jokes going, Harry said he was willing to do whatever it takes to land a Christmas movie role: “I’ll record a self-tape, I’ll fly myself to an audition, I’ll settle a baseless lawsuit with the White House—everything you people in TV do,” a nod to CBS’ $16 million settlement with President Trump, as noted by USA Today. When Colbert protested, “Hey, I didn’t do any of those things,” Harry replied, “Maybe that’s why you’re canceled.”
Despite the on-air teasing, Harry has repeatedly said he stays politically neutral in the U.S. Earlier this year, at a summit in Los Angeles, he emphasized that he is “not on the left or right” and has “never even been allowed to vote.”
