Minneapolis authorities have charged 28-year-old Abdimahat Bille Mohamed with kidnapping and repeated sexual assault of a woman, just months after previous convictions in two separate sexual assault cases.

According to prosecutors, Mohamed met the victim through Snapchat in September 2025 at her home in Mankato and drove her to a hotel in Bloomington. Once in the vehicle, the victim told investigators that Mohamed told her, “You’re not going home,” and confiscated her phone. She was allegedly held captive and sexually assaulted over several days. The woman escaped nearly a week later by jumping out of Mohamed’s car near Aldrich Avenue South in Minneapolis, prompting a resident to contact police.

Mohamed faces charges including kidnapping and felony third-degree criminal sexual conduct. He is currently being held in the county jail on a $300,000 bond.

Mohamed has a history of sexual assault convictions. In 2017, he was linked by DNA and other evidence to the kidnapping and rape of a 15-year-old girl he had contacted on Snapchat. Under a plea agreement, a 36-month prison sentence was stayed, and he served 364 days in a workhouse with five years of probation.

In a 2024 case, prosecutors said Mohamed threatened a woman and her sister with a gun in his Minneapolis apartment. He was convicted and sentenced to 14 months in prison, but the sentence was stayed, resulting in a workhouse term and probation instead of traditional prison time.

Because of these plea deals, Mohamed never served a standard prison sentence despite multiple serious charges over nearly a decade.

The case has renewed debate over sentencing and public safety in Minnesota, raising questions about how to prevent repeat offenses while addressing justice and rehabilitation.
