Inmate Escapes Hospital, Steals Car With Gun Inside

Authorities in Georgia are searching for an escaped inmate who they warn is armed and dangerous after he fled from an Atlanta hospital early Monday. According to the Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office, Timothy Shane had been taken to Grady Memorial Hospital on Sunday night for a medical evaluation after an alleged suicide attempt. Around 1:20 a.m., he slipped away from the deputy guarding him.

Investigators believe Shane first took off on foot before stealing a nearby parked SUV. The vehicle’s owner later told police that a Glock handgun was also missing. Officials say Shane is suspected of crashing that SUV and fleeing once again.

Shane has a documented history of running from law enforcement, along with prior felony drug and weapons charges, the sheriff’s office noted in a Facebook update. At the time of his escape, he was wearing a blue hospital gown and was barefoot. By Monday, he had been spotted near Atlanta’s Little Five Points neighborhood wearing a red hoodie and tan pants, according to WSB-TV.

Authorities are urging the public to stay alert and report any sightings.
