According to O’Donnell, Clay would sometimes pound a hand on the table while saying, “Dmn him, dmn Trump.” O’Donnell recounted asking what prompted the outburst. “She said, ‘He made us move for our own safety! And now he’s destroying the country!’” O’Donnell said, noting that her child overhears many of her political discussions, especially during interviews.

O’Donnell added that she sometimes questions how much of her own political anxiety she is passing down. “Whatever this thing is—this feeling that I have to stand in defiance of him—I don’t. Somebody can tap me out. I did 22 years; I don’t need to do any more.”
The comedian has been living in Ireland after choosing to leave the United States during Trump’s current term. Back in March, she said she leaned on her ancestral connections to relocate and would not return to the U.S. until she felt it was safe for her family.
“I never thought I’d move to another country, but it felt like the right choice for myself and my 12-year-old child,” she said at the time. “I miss many things about home, and I’m trying to build a life here. When it’s safe for all citizens to have equal rights in America, that’s when we’ll consider coming back.”
Separately, it was reported last month that O’Donnell’s daughter Chelsea was sentenced to prison after violating probation while facing pending sexual-assault charges.
