Trump: I Will Halt Immigration From ‘Third World Countries’ He posts anti-immigration Thanksgiving message on Truth Social

In a Thanksgiving proclamation released Wednesday, President Donald Trump urged national unity and highlighted what he described as America’s “spirit of reverence, trust, and gratitude.” According to reporting from Newsweek, the message contrasted sharply with a more combative Thanksgiving post he shared on Truth Social late Thursday night.

In the late-night post, Trump issued a lengthy Thanksgiving greeting that sharply criticized current U.S. immigration policies. He claimed the country has allowed itself “to be divided, disrupted, carved up, murdered, beaten, mugged, and laughed at,” and argued that political correctness has made America “STUPID when it comes to Immigration.” He asserted that the foreign-born population in the U.S. is approximately 53 million and alleged—without providing evidence—that most are “on welfare, from failed nations, or from prisons, mental institutions, gangs, or drug cartels.”

Trump went on to say that immigrants are “supported through massive payments from Patriotic American Citizens,” arguing that this so-called “refugee burden” is responsible for social strain across the country, citing issues such as crime, struggling schools, overcrowded hospitals, and budget deficits.

He pledged to “permanently pause migration from all Third World Countries,” reverse what he labeled “Biden illegal admissions,” and remove individuals he claims are not contributing positively to the nation. His proposed measures included ending federal benefits for noncitizens, revoking naturalization for migrants he says undermine domestic stability, and deporting those he described as public charges or security risks.

The president also singled out Minnesota, claiming that “hundreds of thousands of refugees from Somalia are completely taking over” the state and using an offensive term to criticize Democratic Gov. Tim Walz. He also attacked Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar, who immigrated to the U.S. as a child, accusing her of criticizing America despite coming from what he called a “decadent, backward, and crime ridden nation.”

“Only REVERSE MIGRATION can fully cure this situation,” Trump wrote, ending the message with a combative holiday wish: “Other than that, HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL, except those that hate, steal, murder, and destroy everything that America stands for — You won’t be here for long!”

The president’s comments came shortly after an Afghan national who arrived in the U.S. in 2021 shot two National Guard soldiers in Washington, DC. Following the attack, Trump said his administration would review all individuals who entered the U.S. during the Biden administration. On Thursday, Homeland Security officials confirmed he had ordered a review of all Biden-era asylum cases and a separate review of green cards issued to people from 19 countries, according to Reuters.
