Trump brutally mocks ‘big, fat slob’ Illinois gov during White House turkey pardon ceremony

President Trump took aim at Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker during the annual White House turkey pardoning ceremony on Thursday, mocking the governor’s weight while criticizing the state for declining federal assistance to combat Chicago’s crime surge.

After pardoning this year’s turkeys, Waddle and Gobble, in the newly renovated White House Rose Garden, Trump turned his attention to several political rivals, singling out both Pritzker and Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson.

Speaking about last week’s brutal attack on 26-year-old Bethany MaGee on a Chicago L train and the city’s refusal to request federal help, Trump said, “The mayor is incompetent, and the governor is … a big, fat slob,” adding a pause for effect. “He ought to invite us and say, ‘Please make Chicago safe.’ We’re gonna lose a great city if we don’t do it quickly.”

Later in his remarks, Trump took a more comedic approach, continuing to lampoon Pritzker and Chicago’s approach to crime.

“I looked at the various cases, granting mercy, discovering the terrible trauma that everyone’s going through, and I had a little bit of a Pritzker joke. I was going to talk about Pritzker in size, but when I talk about Pritzker I get angry because he’s not letting us do the job. So I’m not going to tell my Pritzker joke,” Trump said, before adding, “They have a very cute little Pritzker joke — some speechwriter wrote some joke about his weight. But I would never want to talk about his weight. I don’t talk about people being fat. I refuse to talk about the fact that he’s a fat slob, I don’t mention it.”

Trump then poked fun at himself, quipping, “I’d like to lose a few pounds too, by the way. And I’m not going to lose it on Thanksgiving.”

This wasn’t the first time President Trump commented on Pritzker’s weight. In August, he suggested the Democrat “ought to spend more time in the gym, actually.” Pritzker responded the next day, saying, “It takes one to know one on the weight question.”
