A family dispute at a remote hunting cabin in upstate New York ended in tragedy when an argument between three brothers escalated into gunfire, leaving two of them dead, according to state police.
Investigators say 65-year-old Scot Thompson of Englewood, Florida, was staying at a cabin in rural Allegany County on Sunday night when a confrontation broke out with his brothers, 70-year-old Mark Thompson and 69-year-old David Thompson. As tensions rose, Scot allegedly pulled a firearm and fatally shot both men.
Authorities launched a search after receiving a call about the shooting shortly after 10 p.m. Saturday. Troopers arrived to find Mark and David dead near Botsford Hollow Road, prompting an immediate multi-agency manhunt.
Scot fled the scene in David Thompson’s vehicle, police said, but was soon located when officers from the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office and the Geneseo Police Department spotted and stopped the car.
Mark Thompson, of Canterbury, Connecticut, and David Thompson, of Port Charlotte, Florida, had rented the cabin for a hunting trip when the deadly dispute erupted.
Scot Thompson has been charged with two counts of second-degree murder and two counts of criminal use of a firearm. He was taken to the Allegany County Jail and is awaiting arraignment.
