A leaked audio recording has sparked controversy for one of America’s most recognizable food companies, after a former employee alleged that Campbell Soup Company has been using “bioengineered meat” in its products and that a senior executive made crude remarks about customers and coworkers.
According to Newsweek, Campbell is now facing a discrimination and retaliation lawsuit filed November 20 in Wayne County Circuit Court by former security analyst Robert Garza. Garza says he was wrongfully terminated after reporting troubling behavior by Martin Bally, the company’s Vice President and Chief Information Security Officer.
Garza states in the lawsuit that he met Bally at a restaurant in late 2024, believing they would be discussing his salary. Instead, he says Bally mocked Campbell customers and made derogatory comments while describing disturbing claims about the ingredients used in the company’s products. In the recording, Bally is heard ridiculing consumers and expressing that he no longer buys Campbell products because of what he claims is in them. He also disparages “bioengineered meat,” referring to it as chicken produced by “a 3-D printer.”
🚨BREAKING: Campbell Soup’s VP and Chief Information Security Officer, Martin Bally, was secretly recorded saying the company uses bioengineered meat, their products aren’t healthy, and that it’s mostly poor people who buy them.

Garza further alleges that Bally made racist comments about Indians during the conversation.
He says he kept the recording for several weeks before bringing it to the attention of his supervisor, J.D. Aupperle, in January 2025. Roughly three weeks later, on January 30, Garza was fired. His attorney, Zachary Runyan, told Local 4 that Garza acted out of concern for coworkers affected by the remarks, saying, “He was really sticking up for other people.”
Runyan also noted that Garza had no prior disciplinary issues at the company.
In a statement to Newsweek, Campbell Soup Company said:
“If the recording is legitimate, the comments are unacceptable. They do not reflect our values and the culture of our company. Mr. Bally is temporarily on leave while we conduct an investigation. We are proud of the food we make, the people who make it, and the high-quality ingredients we use. The comments on the recording are not only inaccurate—they are patently absurd. Keep in mind, the alleged comments are made by an IT person, who has nothing to do with how we make our food.”
Bally has been placed on temporary leave while the company reviews the matter.
