A Georgia woman has been charged with murder after police discovered her young daughter’s body in a recliner at their home.
Shannen Grimes, 42, is in Fulton County Jail facing two counts of murder, cruelty to children, possession of a firearm or knife during the commission of a felony, and tampering with evidence. Authorities say Grimes was treated at a hospital before her booking following an apparent suicide attempt.
Sandy Springs Police said Grimes’ sister called 911 on Nov. 14 after Grimes disclosed that she had attempted to take her own life. Officers responding to the Laurel Grove condominium found Grimes with a cut on her wrist and her 11-year-old daughter, Genesis, deceased and sitting in a recliner. Genesis was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police reported that when questioned, Grimes allegedly said, “I happened,” in reference to her daughter’s death. Investigators said Genesis had multiple puncture wounds to her neck and shoulder and appeared to have been cleaned and placed in the chair after her death.
Authorities found blood throughout the home, including in paper towels, trash cans, and a bucket, as well as knives near the kitchen sink that appeared to be stained. Blood-soaked clothing and bedding, including a shirt with holes around the neck and shoulder, were discovered in Grimes’ bedroom.
Grimes allegedly admitted to stabbing her daughter while being transported to the hospital. Following treatment, she was booked into jail, where no bond has been set.
