The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced that Akhror Bozorov, a criminal illegal alien from Uzbekistan, was arrested in Kansas on November 9 while operating an 18-wheeler. Bozorov was working as a commercial truck driver when Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) took him into custody.

According to DHS, Bozorov has a history of involvement with terrorist organizations in Uzbekistan. Authorities in that country issued an arrest warrant for him in 2022, citing his membership in a terrorist group. He is also accused of distributing terrorist propaganda, calling for jihad online, and recruiting individuals to join extremist movements.

Bozorov reportedly obtained a commercial driver’s license in Pennsylvania under Democratic Governor Josh Shapiro’s administration. DHS noted that he was previously released into the United States by federal authorities in February 2023 and later received work authorization in January 2024.

Assistant Homeland Security Secretary Tricia McLaughlin emphasized the risks posed by Bozorov’s presence in the U.S., particularly while operating commercial vehicles. “Individuals with known terrorist affiliations should not be on American highways,” she said in a statement.

The arrest has renewed attention on federal policies regarding the screening and employment eligibility of noncitizens. Officials under President Trump and South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem previously implemented measures to identify and remove high-risk individuals through ICE.

This case comes amid other incidents involving illegal aliens who obtained commercial driver’s licenses. One such individual in California caused a fatal crash in Florida in August after making an illegal U-turn on a highway.

In response, the Trump Administration issued an emergency rule intended to prevent such incidents. However, the rule was recently blocked by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit.
