Epstein bragged about his ability to provide Russians with ‘insight’ on Trump

Convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein tried to use his connections to arrange a meeting with Russian officials—claiming he could offer valuable “insight” into President Trump—according to emails released Wednesday by the House Oversight Committee.
In a June 24, 2018, exchange with former Norwegian Prime Minister Thorbjorn Jagland, who was then serving as secretary-general of the Council of Europe, Epstein urged Jagland to suggest to Russian President Vladimir Putin that Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov speak with him.
“I think you might suggest to Putin that Lavrov can get insight on talking to me,” Epstein wrote to Jagland, adding, “Vitaly Churkin used to. But he died,” referring to Russia’s late ambassador to the United Nations.
Jagland appeared open to the idea, replying, “I’ll meet Lavrov’s assistant on Monday and will suggest. Thank you for a lovely evening.” Epstein responded, “I’ll come to UN high level week,” while boasting that his prior conversations with Churkin had helped the Russian diplomat “understand Trump.”
“It’s not complex,” Epstein wrote. “He must be seen to get something. It’s that simple.”
It remains unclear whether Epstein, who died in a Manhattan jail cell in 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges, ever met with Lavrov. Jagland has not commented on the correspondence.
At Wednesday’s White House briefing, Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said the newly released documents “prove absolutely nothing other than President Trump did nothing wrong.”
On Truth Social, President Trump accused Democrats of releasing the emails as a distraction. “They’re trying to deflect from how badly they’ve done on the Shutdown,” he wrote.
In another 2018 email exchange, Epstein corresponded with former Treasury Secretary Larry Summers, who served under President Bill Clinton, about President Trump’s meeting with Putin in Helsinki.
“Do the Russians have stuff on Trump? Today was appalling even by his standards,” Summers wrote to Epstein after the summit.
Epstein replied the next day, calling the president’s handling of the meeting “predictable.” “I’m sure his view is that it went super well,” he wrote. “He thinks he has charmed his adversary. Admittedly he has no idea of the symbolism. He has no idea of most things.”
A spokesperson for Summers did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
