The fact that Americans are increasingly embracing socialism and communism has raised serious questions about the state of the U.S. education system, especially in the world’s freest country.
Independent journalist Katlin Bennett recently interviewed a man who grew up behind the Iron Curtain in the Soviet Union. He expressed disbelief that such ideas are gaining traction in the United States.
In a clip from just before the New York City mayoral election, he said: “I lived behind the Iron Curtain. To want socialism or communism is one of the dumbest things anybody can say in this country.”

He added, “I would literally make it a college requirement to volunteer for three months in a third-world country — that’s the only way they’d realize how good they have it.”
Reflecting on American parenting and education, he said, “We made this happen. We wanted better for our kids, so we let them do whatever they want — and we didn’t educate them. I have a friend who has no idea what Auschwitz is. Forty-two years old. How is that even possible?”
Adding to the conversation, a young woman who immigrated to the U.S. from Russia recently posted a viral video on Twitter/X, warning Americans about the potential consequences of embracing socialist policies.

Despite historical evidence of socialism’s failures, figures like Zohran Mamdani and his supporters believe they can succeed where others have failed. They assume they can implement socialism the “right way” and avoid the mistakes of the past.
History, however, suggests otherwise.
