A Henderson man is in jail after deputies say he tried to steal from a hardware store in Evansville.
Shortly before noon Saturday, authorities were called to the Ace Hardware on Pollack Avenue after reports that a man was concealing power tools in his pants.
Deputies identified the suspect as 41-year-old Joseph Courbat. As he was leaving the store, deputies noticed a “noticeable bulge” in the front waistband of his pants. Upon inspection, a Milwaukee M18 1.25″ Router was found inside.
Courbat initially claimed he was simply walking back to pay for the tool. However, authorities say he admitted he intended to steal it to sell and use the money to reconnect his power service.
Courbat was arrested and booked into the Vanderburgh County Jail without bond. He faces charges including Organized Retail Theft, All Other Larceny, Failure to Appear, and additional charges from other agencies.
