Long Island kayakers vanish after sending selfie to gal pal

Police on Long Island are intensifying their search efforts in the waters near Shinnecock Bay for two missing kayakers who vanished Saturday evening after sending a selfie to a friend.

According to Southampton police, 27-year-old Shane Garcia and his friend, 25-year-old Aaron Montemarano, set out in a lime-green two-man ocean kayak near the Ponquogue Bridge and never returned. “Mr. Garcia sent a picture to his girlfriend of himself and his friend Aaron Montemarano while kayaking in Shinnecock Bay near Ponquogue Bridge,” authorities said in a statement. “A search of Shinnecock Bay and the surrounding area yielded negative results.”
