Identity of Truck Driver in Fiery California Crash Released — Suspect Reportedly an Illegal Alien Released by Biden Administration

Authorities have identified the 21-year-old driver responsible for a deadly freeway crash in Southern California that killed three people and injured several others on Tuesday. The suspect, Jashanpreet Singh, was taken into custody following the multi-vehicle collision on Interstate 10 in Ontario.

According to Fox News correspondent Bill Melugin, Singh is an illegal alien from India who was previously caught and released by U.S. Border Patrol agents in March 2022 at the El Centro, California, sector under the Biden administration’s “catch and release” policy.

“I’m told ICE is placing a detainer request on Singh with the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, where he is in custody on suspicion of DUI causing great bodily injury and gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated,” Melugin reported. Singh has not yet been formally charged.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) said the crash occurred when Singh’s semi-truck failed to stop as traffic slowed, slamming into several vehicles and triggering a massive fireball. Dashcam footage captured by KABC shows the truck plowing into multiple cars and another big rig before bursting into flames. In total, eight vehicles, including four large trucks, were involved.

Witnesses reported that Singh was driving at a dangerously high speed and made no attempt to brake before the impact. CHP later confirmed Singh was arrested at the scene on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs. He is currently being held at the West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga while awaiting formal charges for vehicular manslaughter and DUI.

The California Highway Patrol initially withheld Singh’s identity for more than 24 hours after the crash, prompting public pressure for transparency. KTLA later confirmed Singh’s name on Wednesday.

The tragic wreck reignited criticism of California’s policy of issuing Commercial Driver’s Licenses (CDLs) to non-citizens, including illegal aliens. Investigators have previously found that roughly one in four CDLs issued in California were improperly granted to individuals not authorized to work in the U.S., including those who failed required reading tests.

This is not the first recent deadly crash involving an illegal alien commercial driver. Earlier this year, Harjinder Singh, another Punjabi national living illegally in the United States, killed three people on a Florida highway after making an illegal U-turn on Florida’s Turnpike near Fort Pierce. Reports later revealed that Singh, who obtained his CDL in California and Washington state, could not read English and had failed basic language tests.

The Ontario crash has intensified public outrage over lax border enforcement and state licensing policies — issues President Donald Trump has repeatedly vowed to address through stronger border controls and enforcement of federal immigration laws.
