Walmart is slashing prices on its 2025 Thanksgiving meal basket, offering the full holiday spread for under $4 per person — the lowest price since the program launched in 2022. The meal kit, designed to serve 10 people, includes more than 20 classic holiday items such as turkey, potatoes, stuffing mix, boxed macaroni and cheese, fried onions, and pie crusts. That marks a sharp drop from last year’s roughly $7-per-person cost, according to Reuters. The discounted basket will be available through Christmas Day, Bloomberg reports.

The move comes as many American families continue to face higher living costs due to inflation and ongoing economic uncertainty. Shoppers—especially those in lower-income households—have been feeling the strain of elevated prices and market pressures tied to current U.S. trade policy under President Trump’s administration.

Walmart’s price cut arrives just in time for the critical holiday shopping stretch that runs from November through January, encompassing Thanksgiving, Black Friday, Cyber Monday, and Christmas — a period that accounts for a major share of retailers’ annual sales.

The retailer’s announcement follows a similar holiday discount unveiled last week by Aldi’s U.S. division, highlighting the growing competition for budget-conscious consumers. Walmart’s decision to lower prices comes despite the company recently reporting its first quarterly earnings miss in more than three years. However, executives remain optimistic — Walmart U.S. CEO John Furner said customers are “resilient and continuing to spend at a healthy rate.”

Axios also noted that Walmart’s ability to offer such steep discounts is particularly notable given “the smallest turkey flock in decades” caused by avian flu.
