House Speaker Mike Johnson faced questions Monday about the looming government shutdown, but reporters quickly shifted focus to a different controversy — President Trump’s weekend social media post featuring an AI-generated video.

The video, which shows President Trump piloting a “King Trump” fighter jet and dropping cartoon excrement on liberal protesters, appeared to be a satirical response to the “No Kings” demonstrations held across the country on Saturday.

During the press conference, a reporter asked Johnson, “You’ve said Democrats held a ‘Hate America Rally,’ but what does it say that the president of the United States released a video of him pooping on the American people?” according to Mediaite.

Johnson defended the post, saying the president was making a point through humor.

“The president uses social media to make a point. You can argue he’s probably the most effective person who’s ever used social media for that,” Johnson said. “He’s using satire to make a point. He is not calling for violence or the murder of his political opponents.”

Turning back to the shutdown, Johnson criticized Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and linked the protests to Democratic priorities.

“Now that Chuck Schumer has had his spectacle — his big protest against America — this is our plea: We’re asking that he finally go to work and end this shutdown, stop inflicting pain on the American people,” Johnson said.

Democrats have continued to demand that Republicans agree to include health care subsidies in any deal to reopen the government. The standoff is expected to come to a head by November 1.
