The U.S. Secret Service is investigating a suspicious elevated structure near President Trump’s Air Force One landing area at Palm Beach International Airport, sources say.
The stand, discovered Thursday in a tree within sight of where Trump exits the presidential jet, was described by law enforcement to The Post as an unusual arrangement of pipes. While no ammunition or explosives were found, the discovery triggered heightened alert.
Authorities have not determined whether the structure is simply a hunting stand, debris in a tree, or something more concerning. Officials noted that some hunters in the area target invasive green iguanas, which could explain the presence of the stand.
“Prior to the president’s return to West Palm Beach, the Secret Service discovered what appeared to be an elevated hunting stand within the line of sight of the Air Force One landing zone,” FBI Director Kash Patel told Fox News, which first reported the story. “No individuals were present at the scene. The FBI has since taken the lead on the investigation, bringing in resources to collect evidence and deploying cell phone analytics capabilities.”
The incident follows recent threats against Trump. On July 13, he survived a sniper attack during a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, and on September 15, the Secret Service arrested 59-year-old Ryan Wesley Routh after he fled from a suspected sniper position at Trump’s West Palm Beach golf course.
