Dear Abby,
A friend frequently invites me to dinner, but I’ve been making vague excuses to avoid going. The truth is, I’m uncomfortable with her kitchen hygiene. Her fridge often contains old food and spills, and her counters and sink are usually cluttered with dirty dishes and leftovers. She also doesn’t wash her hands before cooking.
I’ve tried helping her clean while visiting, thinking she might just need some guidance, but her habits haven’t changed. I feel awkward and unsure about explaining the real reason for repeatedly declining her invitations. How should I handle this?
