Actor Alec Baldwin and his brother Stephen Baldwin were involved in a car crash in East Hampton, New York, on Monday, after Baldwin drove his wife’s white Range Rover into a tree along Montauk Highway.
Baldwin claimed on Instagram that a garbage truck “bigger than a whale” suddenly cut him off, forcing him to swerve and collide with a tree. “To avoid hitting him, I hit a tree,” Baldwin said. “I hit a big fat tree and crushed my car — my wife’s car.”

However, dashcam footage obtained exclusively by Newsmax appears to contradict Baldwin’s account.
The one-minute, 29-second video from the truck’s front-facing camera shows the vehicle making a legal right turn onto Montauk Highway. Roughly 30 seconds later, Baldwin’s white Range Rover comes into view, attempting to pass the truck on the right side before veering off the shoulder and crashing head-on into a large roadside tree.
The footage shows no sign that the truck cut Baldwin off. Instead, it appears Baldwin tried to overtake the vehicle illegally, leading to the collision. The video also captures the aftermath, showing the SUV’s crushed front end.
Newly released video shows the moment Alec Baldwin tries to pass a truck on the right but instead swerves into a tree.

East Hampton Town Police Chief Michael D. Sarlo confirmed the incident in a statement to the Daily Mail:
“At approximately 12:01 p.m. on Monday, October 13, the EHTPD responded to a motor vehicle accident on State Route 27, Pantigo Road near Cross Highway.
A white 2023 Range Rover, operated by Alec Baldwin, with passenger Stephen Baldwin, was found to have struck a tree on the eastbound shoulder of the roadway while avoiding the turning action of a 2020 Mack commercial truck, registered to National Waste Services out of Bay Shore, NY.”
No injuries or citations were reported. Police attributed the crash in part to wet roadway conditions and Baldwin’s reaction to another vehicle not directly involved in the incident.
