In the U.S., if you tell a woman she’s beautiful, your political career is over — but I’ll take my chances.
US President Donald Trump praised Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni during the Gaza summit in Egypt.
‘Giorgia Meloni is a beautiful young woman’: Video of Trump praising Italian PM at Gaza summit goes viral.
At a Gaza peace summit in Egypt on Monday, US President Donald Trump made headlines for comments directed at Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, the only female leader on stage. During his speech, Trump paused to compliment Meloni, saying, “She’s beautiful.”
Acknowledging that such remarks could spark accusations of sexism, the 79-year-old president — who has been married three times — added, “I’m not allowed to say it because usually it’s the end of your political career if you say it — she’s a beautiful young woman.” He continued, “If you use the word ‘beautiful’ in the United States about a woman, that’s the end of your political career, but I’ll take my chances.” Turning to Meloni, 48, Trump asked, “You don’t mind being called beautiful, right? Because you are.”

Meloni’s immediate reaction wasn’t visible to cameras, but Trump went on to praise her leadership, describing her as “incredible” and “a very successful politician.” He noted that she is highly respected in Italy and emphasized their shared conservative positions on immigration and cultural issues.
Meloni was the only woman among nearly 30 global leaders gathered at the summit, where participants signed a declaration supporting renewed peace efforts for Gaza.
Trump’s remarks reignited discussions about his history of controversial comments toward women. Recently, he has faced heightened scrutiny, including a September ruling by a U.S. appeals court upholding a jury verdict ordering him to pay $83.3 million in damages to author E. Jean Carroll, whom he was found to have defamed following her sexual assault allegation.
