Tensions are escalating as reports emerge that the United States has been quietly assisting Ukraine in carrying out long-range strikes deep within Russian territory for several months — just as Washington weighs whether to supply Kyiv with Tomahawk missiles.

According to the Financial Times, citing unnamed U.S. and Ukrainian officials, American intelligence support has enabled Ukraine to target key Russian energy sites, including oil refineries located far beyond the front lines. The reported campaign is said to be part of a broader strategy aimed at weakening Russia’s economy and pressuring President Vladimir Putin toward negotiations.

Reuters corroborated parts of the story, quoting the Financial Times report:

“U.S. intelligence has helped Kyiv strike important Russian energy assets, including oil refineries, far beyond the front line,” the paper stated. “The White House, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s office, and Ukraine’s foreign ministry did not immediately respond to Reuters’ requests for comment. There was no immediate comment from the Russian foreign ministry.”

Moscow has long accused Washington and NATO of directly supporting Ukraine’s military operations with advanced intelligence and surveillance tools.

“The supply and use of the entire infrastructure of NATO and the United States to collect and transfer intelligence to Ukrainians is obvious,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters previously.

The Financial Times further reported that U.S. intelligence plays a critical role in helping Ukraine plan attack routes, timing, and flight altitudes—guidance that has allowed long-range, one-way drones to slip past Russian air defenses.
