A Louisiana meteorologist who recently assumed a high-profile weather post at WDSU was arrested Sunday after allegedly breaking into his girlfriend’s home and assaulting her while her children were nearby.
Devon Lucie, 48, who became chief meteorologist at WDSU in August, faces charges of domestic abuse, child endangerment, and resisting an officer by refusing to identify himself, according to Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office records obtained by Nola.com.
Authorities say Lucie attended a festival in Gretna, just outside New Orleans, with his longtime girlfriend over the weekend. A dispute reportedly led the couple to leave separately. The woman was driven home by her mother, but later, Lucie allegedly forced entry into her home, and an argument escalated into physical violence while her two children slept in the living room.

During the incident, Lucie sustained two jagged scratches along the sides of his nose. Deputies reported the woman “fought back in self-defense” and suffered multiple cuts and scratches on her upper body and welts on her face and forehead.
Police say Lucie refused to provide his personal information when asked and did not clean his injuries, which contained dried blood, according to arrest records.
WDSU has placed Lucie on leave while an investigation is underway. He took over as chief meteorologist after his predecessor retired following 45 years at the station and has worked at eight different stations nationwide since graduating from Western Illinois University in 1997. Lucie is also a father of two.
